We encourage you to think about several things when you select the shop for your
auto body / collision repairs.
Remember, you have the right to make this important selection, not the insurance company. Quality,
convenience and price are all factors you might consider.
Probably the most reliable way to find out about the quality of a shop's repairs is to ask your
friends, relatives, neighbors, and co-workers. Their experiences can go a long way in informing your
decision. Did the paint match? Was the car clean when it was returned? Were they treated courteously?
Have the repairs held up? If they had a complaint about the repair, was it resolved to their
satisfaction? You might also want to look at vehicles that a shop has repaired.
Convenience is probably a combination of a shop's proximity and promptness of repairs. A nearby shop
might seem more convenient, but remember that most repairs take several days. It might be prudent to
consider a shop that is little more out of your way, if they provide the quality you're seeking. Make
sure that a shop can accommodate your scheduling needs. If you have rental coverage on your policy, it
can really reduce the hassle. Frequently the rental company can meet you when you drop off your car for
repair and bring you back to the shop on completion.
The price of the repair might or might not be an important consideration for your situation. If the
repair is being paid for by your insurance company, you should only be responsible for your deductible,
regardless of the level of quality you select.
